We recently concluded the treatment of a 14-year-old male presenting with Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia (CPT) and Fibula, characterized by gross deformity and significant shortening. Remarkably, the patient had never achieved a bipedal gait in his life.

Our team implemented a specialized two-stage reconstruction strategy:

  • Stage 1: Utilizing the Ilizarov apparatus and a strict Cross-Union protocol, we successfully achieved biological union of the pseudarthrosis site.

  • Stage 2: Following consolidation, we addressed the limb length discrepancy through a 7.5 cm distraction osteogenesis.

Today, the patient stands on equal-length limbs with a stable, painless union. Transforming a non-ambulatory child into a walking teenager is the ultimate testament to the power of the Ilizarov method and the Paley protocols.
